3. Who are you buying it from? A florist will never tell you her flowers are smelly. Judge for yourself or bring someone who knows about cars along when you are going for a test drive.
4. How to check for accidents? Look out for dents, uneven surfaces or body paint. Usually a car that has been partially repainted will have different shades. Another way is to find out about the previous owner’s auto insurance NCB % (No Claim Bonus) but bear in mind that NCB is transferrable and if no claims were made, accidents will not be reflected. Unless you know someone who works in the auto insurance industry who is willing do a check for you but this might not be legal.
5. Do not go for unpopular models as you will have difficulty in sourcing for spare parts as a car whether new or old will have wear or tear.
6. Most important of all, a car does not appreciate in value over time. A car depreciates in value over time and in accounting standards, a company car is fully written off in value in 5 years. So, if you are a business owner and buying a car under the company will legally let you write off 20% of the value of your car every year for 5 years and you can deduct this from your business profit therefore paying less TAX. Now you know why that Company Director neighbour has a new car every few years.
